Pianist & Accompanist
Timothy End is a chamber music pianist much in demand. He graduated with a first class honours degree in Music from King’s College, London in 2006 before entering Postgraduate study in Piano Accompaniment at the Royal Academy of Music where he gained the prestigious DipRAM award for an outstanding recital in 2008. He held the Shinn Fellowship at RAM for the academic year 2008-09 under the tuition of Julius Drake and Patsy Toh.
Prizes at the Royal Academy of Music include first and second prize in the Delius Competition, the Sir Arthur Bliss Prize, the Flora Nielsen Prize, the Ludmilla Andrew Prize for Russian Song, the Evelyn German Prize for Piano Accompaniment and the Vivian Langrish Memorial Prize at the final of the RAM Club Prize Competition. Timothy was also awarded the Sir Anthony Lewis Memorial Prize accompanying the bass-baritone George Humphreys.
In February of this year Timothy was awarded the Parnell Award for an Accompanist at the ROSL Annual Music Competition. In June he accompanied the baritone Jonathan McGovern and the trumpeter Huw Morgan in the Grand Final of the ROSL Competition at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Jonathan scooped the Gold Medal and the duo will be making their Wigmore Hall debut in the autumn next year.
Earlier this month Timothy was awarded the Gerald Moore Award for Piano Accompaniment by Graham Johnson at the Henry Wood Hall in London.
In March Timothy performed a solo recital to mark the bicentenary of Chopin’s birth in Cambridge.
Recent engagements include a song recital with the bass Sir John Tomlinson at the Saville Club in Central London, a lunchtime recital at St James Piccadilly with Jonathan McGovern and Timothy’s debut concert in June with the City of London Choir at St. John’s Smith Square marking a tribute to the late John Dankworth. Further recitals include an evening with the baritone George Emney at the National Opera Studio and a lunchtime recital in Perth Concert Hall with the bassoonist Karen Geoghegan in November.
Forthcoming engagements include a lunchtime concert at St Martin-in-the-Fields with the horn player Elise Campbell. Huw and I will be performing our debut recital at the Purcell Room for the Park Lane Group Artists in January 2011, along with recitals at St Martin-in-the-Fields and St James Piccadilly in the same month.
Timothy performed on BBC Radio 3 for the Proms Composer Portrait Series in 2009 performing the Five Fragments for Clarinet and Piano with Victoria Kerby. In October 2010 Timothy appeared on In Tune on Radio 3, accompanying Karen Geoghegan in works by Rossini and Noel Gallon.
Timothy has performed masterclasses with Thomas Allen, Robert Tear, Ann Murray, Felicity Lott, Barbara Bonney, Rudolf Jansen, Jean-Philip Schulz and most recently Margaret Price at the Machynlleth Festival in Wales, performing Schumann’s Liederkreis Op.39 with the baritone Jonathan McGovern.
Timothy has recently been accepted onto the Live Music Now Scheme with the saxophonist Samuel Corkin. Furthermore, he has been accepted onto the Making Music Artists’ Scheme and Park Lane Group Artists with the trumpeter Huw Morgan.
